I started my career in 1980 as a software designer. I loved the challenge of solving puzzles and creating something new. I was running my own small company and selling my software around the world. After a severe car accident in 1989, I practised calligraphy, b&w photography and scuba diving. I designed and manufactured darkroom equipment. When I was able, I had to return to software development to support my family – with contracting out my skills being the best way to do that.
More recently, I began reviewing a lifetime of photographs my father had taken. As he had passed away by then, I had no way to make a cohesive story. I find this very sad – not just for me but for others in the same situation – meaning most of us.
The best storyline came from a set of photographs taken with a Polaroid where he wrote on them straight away.
I am entering into a new phase of my life where I intend to travel around Australia. My images will be digital, but I don’t want my grandchildren to see them and wonder what they are about.
I will start with a blog, but my vision is to create something that anyone can easily use to turn a set of photographs into a story.
